The 哲学 major provides a pre-professional foundation for careers and graduate study. All 哲学 students complete an intensive senior thesis research project that serves as the culmination of the program, and many students use it as a basis for graduate school applications. Graduates of 资本’s 哲学 degree have continued their studies in graduate school in 哲学 and other disciplines, 法学院, 和神学院. Others have moved directly into their careers. 资本 students have multiple opportunities to network with professionals and complete internships throughout their time on campus.
With the opportunity to study contemporary programs in 哲学, students will explore foundational questions like:
- 我们能知道什么呢??
- What beliefs are reasonable?
- What does it mean to be a happy, fulfilled person?
- 什么是人性??
- Does life have a meaning?
- What do we mean by freedom, and how do we realize it?
Many employers seek out 哲学 majors because they are critical thinkers and careful communicators — skills in high demand for leadership positions.
资本’s 哲学 degree is an important option for Pre-法律 students, who will find that—nationally—哲学 students are consistently among the highest scorers on the LSAT exam. 事实上, students in pre-law from all majors are encouraged to take at least two 哲学 courses: 逻辑导论 and Symbolic 逻辑. 虽然不是专业, the Pre-法律 Pre-Professional program is a path for students interested in pursuing their J.D. 资本’s reputation for academic excellence prepares students whose professional objective span the spectrum of private, corporate and community legal career possibilities.

“After I got to 资本, I realized that I wasn’t limited in my thinking; there was no "or", 它总是一个“并且”." I could study African American 历史 and Culture and 哲学 and Politics and Criminology – all at once. The professors and curriculum had a way of tying in concepts from other courses that pieced together my knowledge into an expanded way of thinking about the world.”
